  • Dr. Leonie McKinlay

Dr. Leonie McKinlay DVMDr. McKinlay has always had a very special fondness for animals and knew at a very young age that she wanted to be a veterinarian.  She worked diligently to make her dream a reality, obtaining her Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from the University of Calgary and then attending the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon where she graduated with great distinction in 2011. Shortly after graduation, she relocated to Vancouver Island to join the team at Oceanside Animal Hospital.

Dr. McKinlay became co-owner of Oceanside Animal Hospital in April 2014 along with manager Sandra Porter.

Dr. McKinlay has a special interest in dentistry and is a member of the Foundation for Veterinary Dentistry.  She also has completed the Fear Free training program and tries to make every animal's visit to Oceanside Animal Hospital a pleasant and stress free experience.

Dr. McKinlay lives with her husband Gord and their two young daughters. They currently share their home with two cats, Abby and Mr. Meow.

  • Dr. Alicia Ashley

Dr. Alicia Ashley DVMDr. Alicia Ashley is a 2013 graduate from the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) in Prince Edward Island. Being born and raised on this tiny East Coast Island gave her an appreciation for island life, and after a cross country trek she now calls beautiful Vancouver Island home.

After completing her pre-vet program at the University of Prince Edward Island, she was accepted into the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program at the AVC. Here she fostered her interests in small animal and wildlife medicine, received multiple awards recognizing her performance in the program and graduated with honors. Dr. Ashley's interest in veterinary medicine originally stemmed from her passion for wildlife conservation and she has worked on several wildlife conservation projects over the years. The desire to become a veterinarian was solidified after a backpacking trip through Central and South America, where she encountered many animals that suffered from otherwise preventable or treatable diseases. Since entering the veterinary field, Dr. Ashley has made trips to several remote villages to offer veterinary care to these under served areas.

Dr. Ashley has a special interest in cats and enjoys spoiling her own two kitties, Myles and Jarvis. In her spare time she and her husband Robbie enjoy the many things Vancouver Island has to offer. Dr. Ashley loves to mountain bike, downhill ski, hike, cook and travel.
